Smart door locks, answered
Will a smart lock fit my existing door?
Most solid wooden and metal doors can take one, but the door's thickness, material and existing lock cut-out decide which models fit. We inspect the door first and tell you if it needs any modification before you buy a lock.
What happens if the battery runs out?
The lock warns you on the keypad or app well before the batteries are flat. If they do run out, most models open with a mechanical backup key or take power from an external battery at the keypad. We show you the backup at handover.
Is a fingerprint lock safe for a home?
A good fingerprint lock is harder to get past than a key that can be copied, and you can remove a person's fingerprint the day they no longer need access. What matters as much is the fitting: a well-aligned lock on a solid door, with the backup key kept away from the door.
Can I give temporary access to a maid, driver or guest?
Yes. Depending on the model you can add a separate PIN, card or app access for each person and delete it later, and some locks allow codes that work only at certain times.
Can I see who opened the door?
Most smart locks keep an entry log, readable on the lock's screen or in its app, showing which user opened the door and when.
Can smart locks be used on office cabins and store rooms?
Yes. They suit small offices, cabins and store rooms where you want a log and user control without a full access control system. For several doors managed together, access control is usually the better fit.
