Complete IP CCTV solutions
More than a camera upgrade
IP CCTV records sharper video than analogue HD cameras, which matters when you need to read a face at a doorway or a number plate at a gate.
It also grows more easily. Adding a camera usually means one more network cable to the nearest switch, not a new run back to the recorder.

How an IP system fits together
Camera, cable, switch, recorder — one network
An IP camera is a small computer on your network. How well the system works depends on every link in that chain.
- 1 IP camera Captures and compresses the video itself, at 2 MP up to 4K depending on the detail you need.
- 2 Network cable One Cat6 run per camera carries video, power and control — usually up to about 90 metres before a switch is needed.
- 3 PoE switch Powers the cameras and joins them to the network. Its power budget must cover every camera plus spare.
- 4 NVR and storage Records every camera to surveillance-grade disks sized for the days you need to keep.
- 5 Viewing Live view and playback on phones and desktops, on site or remotely through a secured connection.
IP or HD?
Which system suits your site
IP is not always the answer. This is how we usually decide.
A home or small shop with a few cameras
HD usually enough
Lower cost for the same camera count, and the detail is fine at short distances.
An office that will add cameras later
IP
New cameras join the nearest switch instead of needing a cable back to the recorder.
Reading faces or number plates
IP, higher resolution
More pixels on the target, so details survive when you zoom into a recording.
Long distances across a campus or factory
IP with switches or fibre
Network links can be extended between buildings where coaxial runs would degrade.
An existing analogue system that works
Hybrid recorder
Keep the working HD cameras and add IP cameras where they are needed most.
Several branches watched centrally
IP with multi-site viewing
Each branch records on site; the owner sees all of them in one app.

Frequently asked questions
IP CCTV, answered
What is the difference between IP and HD CCTV?
IP cameras send digital video over network cable to an NVR and usually record at higher resolution. HD analogue cameras send video over coaxial cable to a DVR and cost less. IP suits sites that need fine detail or will grow; HD suits smaller sites on a tighter budget.
What does PoE mean?
Power over Ethernet. The camera takes its power and sends its video through one network cable from a PoE switch or NVR, so there is no separate adapter or power point at each camera.
Do IP cameras need the internet to record?
No. They record to the NVR over your local network. Internet is only needed to watch the cameras from outside the building.
Can IP cameras share our office network?
They can, but a building full of cameras recording at once uses real bandwidth. Where the office network is busy, we put the cameras on their own switch or VLAN so neither slows the other down.
Is 4K worth it?
Only where you need to zoom into recorded footage across a wide area, such as a yard or a large hall. 4K fills storage much faster, so for corridors and doors a 2 MP to 5 MP camera is usually enough.
Can we view several branches from one app?
Yes. Each site keeps its own NVR, and we add all of them to one viewing app so you can switch between branches from your phone or desktop.
Can you move our existing DVR system to IP?
Yes. Depending on the recorder, we either replace it in stages or use a hybrid recorder that takes both kinds of camera for a while. The site assessment shows which is sensible.
