Complete communication systems

More than a telephone exchange

An exchange is only useful when the calls land in the right place. We map the desks, cabins, departments and common areas first, then decide how many extensions and outside lines the system needs.

We then install it, run or reuse the cabling, programme the extensions and greetings, and show your team how to transfer, hold and page.

How an exchange routes a call

From an outside line to the right desk

  1. 1 The outside lines A few lines from your provider are shared by everyone, instead of one line per desk.
  2. 2 The exchange The EPABX or IP PBX decides where each call goes — reception, a department or a recorded greeting.
  3. 3 The extensions Every desk, cabin and common area has its own number, reachable internally at no call cost.
  4. 4 The rules Transfer, hold, pick-up, voicemail and after-hours routing, set to how your team actually works.

Frequently asked questions

EPABX and IP PBX, answered

View all FAQs
What is the difference between an EPABX and an IP PBX?

Both connect internal extensions and share outside lines. A traditional EPABX runs on its own telephone cabling; an IP PBX runs over your computer network, so one cable serves a desk phone and a computer, and extensions can reach staff at another branch. Which suits you depends on your cabling and how many sites you have.

How many extensions can we have?

From a handful in a small office to several hundred across a campus. We size the system on the number of desks, cabins and common areas you want to reach, and leave room to add more later.

Can we keep our existing phone numbers and handsets?

Usually the numbers, yes — they belong to your provider. Analogue handsets often work on a hybrid system, and we tell you before quoting whether yours can be reused or need replacing.

Will the phones work if the internet goes down?

A traditional EPABX keeps working internally because it does not depend on the internet. An IP PBX keeps internal calls going on your local network; calls to the outside world depend on the internet line, so sites that cannot lose calls usually keep a backup line.

Can it connect to our intercom or door phone?

Often, yes. IP door stations can ring an extension so reception answers the gate from the same handset. We check what your door system supports during the survey.

Do you maintain the system after installation?

Yes. Moves, adds and changes to extensions, fault visits and annual maintenance contracts are all handled by the same local team.
